Roy Lichtenstein Inspired Cartoons
Students in 8th grade are inspired by the art work of pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. They choose a cartoon character that they like, then using a grid they enlarge the character adding dots to the character or the background (like Lichtenstein).
Notan
At the beginning of each rotation my 8th grade students create a Notan design. I find this project to be a great transition into thinking like an artists. This lesson demands that the students think in positive and negative space, about symmetry, and use basic problem solving skills to create their design.
