6th Grade Artwork
Name Symmetry
Students start off with their name touching all sides on a small triangle. Then they trace their name, flip it trace their name and do it 3 more times - lining up each letter each time to create a symmetrical design.
Lego/Minion Self- Portrait
This project is probably the 6th graders favorite, and most looked forward to project. Each group wants to know when they get to do the Minion/ Lego project. For this project each 6th grader must make themselves into either a Minion or a Lego person. They must have some of the same characteristics as the student, also they must have clothing that represents them, lastly they need a background so their minion, or lego isn't just floating in white nothingness.
Tree Silhouette
For this project each student chose an analogous color set (2 primary colors and a secondary color or 2 secondary colors and a primary color), using watercolor paints to blend their backgrounds. Once their backgrounds were dry they used black tempra paint to paint Y (or V) trees filling up the space as much as possible.
Non-Objective
The 6th graders worked with non-objective artwork. They started off by painting 3 lines across their paper, the lines must touch all 4 sides, and at least 2 of them must cross. In each of the spaces students then added analogous colors (colors right next to each other on the color wheel) using oil pastels.
Clay - Drap Bowls
The 6th graders were able to create these beautiful bowls by blowing up balloons and placing a slab (flat rolled out clay) on top of them to dry. Once they were fired students were able to glaze their pottery to create colorful unique bowls.
2 Point Perspective City
In 6th grade the students learn about 2 point perspective. With 2 point perspective their are 2 vanishing points, in previous years students have worked with perspective but only 1 vanishing point. A vanishing point is where everything disappears, or vanishes - it is usually on the horizon line. Students drew a city with at least 3 buildings on each side of the center line. Once they were done drawing their buildings, adding windows and doors they had to color their city to make it their own.
Circle Design
The 6th graders second project is to combined the all the elements of design into a circle. They use paint, markers, and colored pencils to complete their designs. Once they are all the way done they mount their circle design on to black paper.
Elements of Design Book
Each rotation I start off with a review of the Elements of Design, and Principles of Design. Students make a page for each of the elements of design:
- Line
- Color
- Texture
- Shape
- Form
- Value
- Space
