Mona Lisa Parodies
One of the things that I do with my 4th and 5th graders do when they are done cleaning up is sit like the Mona Lisa. I like to do this project with 5th graders because they all know who the Mona Lisa is. We start out drawing out ideas of how we would make a modern day Mona Lisa. The pictures must have 3 things in them:
- Hands crossed
- Smile
- Background
Tessellations
The 5th grade students started with a square, and cut a organic line, and taped it on the opposite side from where they cut. Then they did that step again so they cut out 2 shapes and taped them across from where they cut. Once their shape was ready, they traced it onto their paper, then fitting it together like a puzzle piece and traced until the whole paper was covered. After their shape was traced they then found an image in their shape to repeat in all of the shapes. They then colored their tessellations in a pattern to make them stand out.
Value-scape
5th grade worked with value on this project. They learned how adding different amounts of white or black can change a color. They used the tints and shades to create a simple landscape.
1 Point Perspective Hallways
The 5th graders worked with one point perspective, drawing a school hallway. They learned how to use a vanishing point to create the illusion of depth in their pictures. Once they were done drawing their picture they were abel to color and design their school however they felt.
Friedensreich Hundertwasser inspired landscapes
5th Grade looked at the artwork of Friedensrich Hundertwasser, an Austrian artist. Students had to incorporate Hundertwasser's favorite things ( Vibrant Colors, Lack of Straight Lines, Organic Forms, Spirals, Onion Domes, Lollipop Trees, Windows of Different Shapes and Sizes) into their landscapes'.
Name Design with a Border
The first project of the year for the 5th graders was a design project. They started by making a boarder around their paper. Then they added their name into the design, then the background. Lastly they worked with a color scheme 3 to 5 colors that work together well. They were suppose to make their name the focal point of their design (the first thing seen) and make it pop out.
