City at Night with a Van Gogh Sky
With my fourth grade I always focus on the 'basics' of art: Scapes, Portraits, Still Lifes. With this project we worked with Cityscapes at night, we used our prior knowledge that we learned about Landscapes to help us create our Cityscapes. One other element that was added into this lesson was our sky was drawn/painted in the style of Vincent Van Gogh.

Positive / Negative Space
I've been waiting for some supplies I ordered before starting my next project, so I needed a quick and easy but fun project that my 4th graders would enjoy. I decided to work with positive and negative space, knowing that knowledge of positive and negative space can strengthen the artwork of students.

The Scream
At the start of October I know it's time to work with Edvard Munch and the Scream. This project is so fun and it looks great in the hallways for Halloween. With this project I also add a reading/writing element, they must fillin the blanks to have a pome that represents the picture they made.

Landscapes
4th Grade just finished up making landscapes. We started off by looking at a website that taught us the basics about landscapes, Birmingham Museum. This site taught the 4th graders about:
After a day of exploring the website above it was time to get to work on creating a landscape of their very own. I helped the students start by:

- Aerial Perspective
- Foreground
- Middleground
- Background
- Linear Perspective

- Drawing 2 to 3 wavy horizontal line
- Add triangles on top of the lines to make mountains
- Add focal points (things to help your eye move through the picture) trees, rivers, bushes, clouds, sun, ect
- Once the whole thing is drawn we use colored pencil to color our pictures.

Fire Prevention Posters
This year 4th grade started off the year making fire prevention posters. This years theme was "Prevent Kitchen Fires", so we spent a lot of time talking about what causes kitchen fires, and the best way to prevent them. This project was a great learning experience for the students, and a great way to start off the year!
